Wiles signed a minor league contract with the Rangers back in mid-April and never made it back to the majors. The 30-year-old righty struggled in a pair of starts for Triple-A Round Rock before Texas decided to move on.

Willes heads back to the Rangers as extra organizational depth. The 29-year-old righty didn’t pitch last season due to injury and hasn’t appeared in the majors since making four relief appearances for the Athletics during the 2022 campaign.

Wiles made his MLB debut with the A’s this past year at age 28 and wound up surrendering six runs -- five earned -- across 9 2/3 innings. The righty will function as organizational pitching depth for Milwaukee in 2023.

Wiles closed out the 2022 regular season on the injured list because of a shoulder strain, after logging only four MLB relief appearances with the A’s. The 28-year-old righty is off the 40-man roster.

The 28-year-old hurler only appeared in four games with the big league club, posting a 4.66 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 9/2 K/BB ratio across 9 2/3 innings of work. He’ll miss the remainder of the 2022 campaign. Adam Oller was activated from the injured list in a corresponding move on Friday.

Wiles will join the A’s after posting a 5.40 ERA across 143 1/3 innings in Triple-A. He made 26 starts in the minors, but it’s yet to be determined what role he’ll play with Oakland. Domingo Tapia was waived in the corresponding move.

Wiles, a former first-round selection of the Rangers back in 2012, has yet to reach the major leagues. The 27-year-old righty registered a respectable 4.19 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 82/20 K/BB ratio across 86 innings (23 appearances, 11 starts) last year at Triple-A Round Rock in the Rangers’ system. He’ll augment the division-rival Athletics’ organizational pitching depth this season.
