Delwyn Young went 3-for-4 with a pair of solo homers Thursday for Triple-A Las Vegas.
Young, who is celebrating his 24th birthday today, is hitting .274/.339/.476 in 288 at-bats. He’s going to need to do quite a bit better if he hopes to make it in the majors as a corner outfielder. The switch-hitter currently projects as a reserve.

White Sox signed OF Delwyn Young to a minor league contract.
Young posted a weak .244/.298/.387 batting line with 109 strikeouts and 30 walks in 480 plate appearances last season for the Phillies’ Triple-A team in Lehigh Valley. He still has real problems with plate discipline and will struggle to climb to the major leagues with Chicago.

Nationals signed INF/OF Delwyn Young to a minor league contract.
The deal does not include a spring training invite. Young, 30, played last season with the Camden Riversharks of the independent Atlantic League and hasn’t appeared in the big leagues since 2010 as a member of the Pirates. He figures to serve as organizational depth.

Dodgers purchased the contracts of 2B Delwyn Young, RHP Franquelis Osoria, LHP Ryan Ketchner, LHP Derek Thompson, C Russell Martin, 1B-OF Brian Myrow and OF Jason Repko.
Many of the Dodgers’ top pitching prospects don’t yet have to be protected, so this is an unimpressive list. Young is the best prospect. He has a chance to become a regular second baseman in 2007. Myrow’s inclusion was a surprise. He went unpicked in last year’s draft and he doesn’t even play second base anymore.

Ryan Church (wrist) is available to pinch hit against the Reds on Tuesday.
Church has been out of the lineup since being beaned in the wrist during Friday’s game against the Cardinals. He’s still a bit too sore to play an entire game, but is available in limited duty. Delwyn Young will make his second start of the season in right field on Tuesday night.
  • ATH 2nd Baseman
Akinori Iwamura (hamstring) took extra batting practice Monday but was not included in the Pirates’ starting lineup against the Phillies.
Iwamura has missed two straight games since coming down with a tight right hamstring over the weekend. There’s a chance he will return on Tuesday. If not, Delwyn Young will likely start at second base again
  • CWS Third Base Coach
Andy LaRoche is out of the lineup for a third straight game due to back stiffness.
Pirates manager John Russell said that LaRoche may be able to play on Tuesday. He was originally held out of the lineup as a precaution, but don’t be surprised if this eventually turns into a DL stint. Delwyn Young will start at third base in his place.

Delwyn Young went 3-for-5 and hit his eighth homer yesterday for Double-A Jacksonville.
He’s not the best D. Young in the Southern League, but Delwyn is a quality prospect. His recent hot streak has put him at .282/.340/.466 for the year.

Delwyn Young, who hit 22 homers for Single-A Vero Beach last season, is ticketed for Double-A Jacksonville.
Young, Willy Aybar and Antonio Perez are the Dodgers’ threee internal candidates to eventually replace Jeff Kent at second base.
