Dillon Overton has retired from professional baseball.
Overton signed a minor league contract with the Rockies back in February and has elected to step away from the game after making 12 appearances (11 starts) this season at Triple-A Albuquerque. The 30-year-old left-hander last appeared in the majors back in 2017 with the Mariners and Padres. His longest stint in the majors came as a rookie back in 2016 with the Athletics.

Overton spent the 2021 campaign overseas with the Rakuten Monkeys of Taiwan’s Chinese Professional Baseball League. The 30-year-old former second-round pick hasn’t appeared in the majors since the 2017 season and holds a lackluster 9.13 ERA, 1.88 WHIP and 28/11 K/BB ratio across 47 1/3 innings in the big leagues. He’ll provide the Rockies with some additional organizational pitching depth this season.

The Athletics are expected to call up left-hander Dillon Overton to start Tuesday against the Astros.
Overton has allowed 11 runs on 15 hits and five walks in 8 2/3 innings over two spot-starts with the A’s this season. He’s a shaky fantasy option.

Dillon Overton turned in a respectable performance in Tuesday’s no-decision against the Astros, yielding three runs on nine hits over 6 1/3 innings
The nine hits allowed are a bit much to inspire confidence, but Overton managed to avoid the big inning. He struck out six without walking a batter. This is just expected to be a spot start for the 24-year-old southpaw, who has now allowed 14 runs on 24 hits across 16 innings. Of his three starts this season, Tuesday’s was his best by a wide margin.

Athletics optioned LHP Dillon Overton to Triple-A Nashville.
Overton allowed three earned runs on nine hits over 6 1/3 innings Tuesday in a no-decision against the Astros. It was only meant to be a spot start. He should get another turn at some point later this season as the Athletics begin to sell off parts, but there isn’t much reason for fantasy intrigue.

Dillon Overton was lit up by the Cubs on Friday, yielding seven runs and nine hits in three innings.
Overton gave up two homers during a four-run first inning. The A’s are pretty much out of decent rotation candidates with Rich Hill gone and Jesse Hahn on the disabled list, so Overton could get another chance. Still, he has a 10.97 ERA after five starts.
