Hernandez

Hernandez has managed a hideous .157/.195/.260 career batting line over 127 major league at-bats and also hit just .201/.229/.308 at Triple-A in the Braves organization this season. But, he landed in a good spot in Houston, as he might actually have a shot to earn a roster spot as a utility infielder.

Hernandez was released by the Astros Wednesday after batting just .159/.240/.159 over 50 plate appearances. He’ll provide depth at Triple-A Iowa.

He will replace injured Omar Infante (hand) on the roster. He owns a .355 batting average and .891 OPS this season, so he’ll likely see some at-bats, but will mostly be used as a backup infielder.
