Domonic Brown told Matt Gelb of The Athletic that he is “ready to call it quits” on his baseball career.
Brown hasn’t appeared in a game at the MLB level since way back in 2015, though he did put up strong numbers last year in the Mexican League. The former top prospect is now working with kids at a baseball training facility in the Philadelphia suburbs and says he’s content. “Honestly, I’m a better teacher than I am player,” Brown told The Athletic. “I know that I was pretty good. But I love to do this. I enjoy that more than putting my body through a beating right now at 32. That’s what it is coming to. I feel great, honestly. It is OK.”

Domonic Brown is expected to join the Phillies once Triple-A Lehigh Valley is finished playing.
The IronPigs will begin a series with Triple-A Columbus (Indians) on Tuesday night to determine the International League champions. Brown, 24, struggled in sporadic duty with the Phillies this season and is unlikely to hold much fantasy value until 2012.

According to Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Phillies plan to send Domonic Brown to the instructional league at the conclusion of the regular season.
Brown was called up from the minors late Friday night and could still qualify for the postseason roster, but the Phillies are more concerned with him getting regular reps in left field in preparation for 2012. The Phillies don’t plan to send him to winter ball again, so when the instructional league calendar ends on October 15, his season will be over.

With Ryan Howard (Achilles) potentially out six-to-twelve months, the player who stands to gain the most is outfielder Domonic Brown.
While the torn Achilles prognosis is speculation, a best-case scenario would put Howard’s recovery time at April 10, 2012. Assuming manager Charlie Manuel shifts John Mayberry to first base, that would open a full-time job in left field for Brown, who turned 24 in September. The team will be forced to make a decision on the once heralded prospect next season as he has moved back-and-forth in the minors since 2008. Though the front office emphasized his talents a year ago there are some within the organization that do not believe he can be an everyday player. In six seasons Brown’s posted .261/.391/.459 at the MILB level.

Former major leaguer Gary Sheffield helped Domonic Brown adjust his batting stance during the offseason, showing the 24-year-old how he can become a better hitter by squaring his hips and maintaining better balance.
Brown enters training camp with a Triple-A cloud over his head. Despite facing the likely prospect that he begins yet another season in the minors, he comes “fighting to win a job here.” It could take more than a new batting approach to make that happen.
