Doug Brocail (appendectomy) expects to be activated on May 27th, the first day he is eligible.
He sailed through the laser surgery yesterday without any problems, and was back in the clubhouse playing cards mere hours after being released from the hospital.

Doug Brocail has agreed to report to Triple-A Oklahoma for the start of the season.
Brocail still has some rust to shake following a three-year absence. He should be officially assigned to minor league camp today.

The Rangers may use RHP Doug Brocail as a starter.
Although he pitched three scoreless innings last night, turning Brocail back into a starter (he hasn’t started a game since 1997) is not such a good idea. Hopefully, mananger Buck Showalter will come to the same conclusion.

The Rangers will send a scout to monitor the workout of free agent Doug Brocail today in Houston.
Brocail, once a quality setup man for the Tigers, is trying to come back after missing three seasons. If he shows he’s sufficiently recovered from Tommy John surgery, some team will give him a minor league contract.

Doug Brocail (shoulder and hamstring injuries) will start one of the games in Thursday’s doubleheader at Class AA Frisco.
Mickey Callaway (nerve injury) will start the other. Chan Ho Park (back) will also make a rehab start on Thursday at Triple-A Oklahoma. Park and Callaway could figure into plans for the Rangers’ starting rotation in the coming weeks.

Brocail threw around 30 pitches in the session. He is still at least a month from returning to the Padres’ bullpen.

Doug Brocail (two angioplasties) pitched 2/3 of an inning during a rehab outing with Single-A Lake Elsinore on Tuesday.
Brocail struck out two in the outing and allowed one unearned run. He is expected to make at least five more minor league rehab appearances before returning to the Padres’ bullpen.

Doug Brocail (two angioplasties) left Thursday’s minor league rehab start due to a tight groin.
Brocail struck out two and walked one prior to exiting the game. This will likely delay his return to the Padres by at least a week.
