Tigers signed INF Drew Maggi to a minor league contract.
Maggi made his long-awaited big-league debut last April for the Pirates after 13 seasons in the minors. The 35-year-old journeyman infielder has been playing this season for the Staten Island FerryHawks of the independent Atlantic League.

    Pirates released INF Drew Maggi.
Maggi made his long-awaited major-league debut earlier this year for the Pirates after spending 13 seasons in the minors.
  • FA 3rd Baseman #39
Pirates sent INF Drew Maggi outright to Double-A Altoona.
The move clears him from the 40-man roster. Maggi, of course, finally made his way to the majors late last month after 13 seasons in the minors and went 2-for-6 with an RBI before being optioned last weekend.

Drew Maggi went 2-for-2 and collected his first two big league hits as the Pirates demolished the Nationals in the nightcap of their doubleheader on Saturday.
The 33-year-old -- who was optioned back to Triple-A on Saturday but stuck around as the 27th man for the doubleheader -- lined (99.4 mph EV) a pinch-hit single into center field off of Hobie Harris in the seventh inning. He then added a double off of Lane Thomas in the ninth inning, and rode home on Miguel Andujar’s three-run homer. After toiling for 13 seasons in the minor leagues, that’s a moment that Maggi will never forget.

Pirates optioned INF Drew Maggi to Double-A Altoona.
Maggi will remain with the Pirates as their 27th man for Saturday’s doubleheader against the Nationals before heading back to the minors. The 33-year-old journeyman made his long-awaited major-league debut earlier this week after 13 seasons in the minors.

Drew Maggi will make the start at third base Thursday against the Dodgers.
Maggi finally made his way to the majors on Wednesday after 13 seasons in the minor leagues, striking out as a pinch-hitter in his first plate appearance. Now he’ll make his first major league start. Here’s hoping his first major league hit comes along with it. Naturally, with Maggi at third base, Ke’Bryan Hayes is out of the lineup on Thursday. Tucupita Marcano will start at second base and bat leadoff and Julio Urias.

Drew Maggi struck out as a pinch-hitter on Wednesday in his major-league debut against the Dodgers.
Welcome to the majors, Drew. After 13 seasons in the minor leagues, Maggi finally got his first plate appearance in the majors in the eighth inning of Wednesday’s one-sided affair against Los Angeles. The 33-year-old rookie infielder received a standing ovation as he stepped to the plate to face lefty Alex Vesia and wound up striking out on four pitches.

Pirates selected the contract of INF Drew Maggi from Double-A Altoona.
This will be the first time Maggi will have an opportunity to play in the major leagues. The 33-year-old journeyman infielder doesn’t provide much fantasy upside, but it is a great feel-good story.

Pirates reassigned INF/OF Chris Owings, INF Drew Maggi and RHP Tyler Chatwood to minor league camp.
Owings and Maggi figure to stick around as extra veteran position player depth for the Pirates at Triple-A Indianapolis.

Pirates re-signed INF Drew Maggi to a minor league contract.
Maggi’s odyssey towards the majors continues after splitting last season between the Pirates and Phillies at the Triple-A level. The 33-year-old journeyman infielder possesses plenty of defensive versatility, which makes him an ideal reserve, but he doesn’t offer much offensively at this stage of his career. He’s spent over a decade in the minors and will try to make it to the big leagues this season in Pittsburgh.
