Mets signed RHP Eduardo Herrera to a minor league contract and assigned him to Single-A Port St. Lucie.
A converted infielder, Herrera has spent time in the Diamondbacks and Royals organizations. Despite his size at 5-foot-9, the diminutive fireballer can touch 96 mph with his fastball. Herrera will serve as organizational depth for New York.
