Moreno should have been removed from the Rangers’ 40-man roster before Ben Kozlowski or Colby Lewis were sent through waivers earlier this winter. It doesn’t really matter now since all three are gone. Moreno, 24, has a good slider and changeup to complement an adequate fastball. He might be a future middle reliever.

None of the above are exceptional prospects. Moreno could be a middle reliever for the Phillies.

After struggling in the majors earlier this season, Moreno found his game in the minors with six saves in 11 games while posting a 2.08 ERA and 1.30 WHIP.

Moreno had six saves and a 2.08 ERA in 11 appearances with Portland before his call-up last week. San Diego used him sparingly, however, and he’s far better off getting regular outings at Portland.

Moreno simply struggled with a 1-3 record, a 4.67 ERA and a 1,85 WHIP in 17 1/3 innings this season. It was a big day for the Padres as they are looking for any help for their struggling bullpen - with a big exception to high-flying Heath Bell. Moreno was a casualty of that house-cleaning.

A full half of the team’s pitching staff, which will also be comprised of Jake Peavy, Chris Young, Heath Bell, Cla Meredith and recent acquisitions Edward Mujica and Eulogio De La Cruz. Hill is slated to start the fifth game of the season, even though he’s not yet ready to throw more than 60-70 pitches.

Moreno had a 4.84 ERA over 22 1/3 innings for the Padres this season. He had been pitching in the minors since mid-June, and he’ll likely stay with Triple-A Portland if he clears waivers.
