Elijah Pleasants pitched 3 1/3 innings of one-run ball and struck out four for Scottsdale of the AFL on Friday.
Pleasants was drafted in the 36th round by the Royals out of high school in 2018, but he declined to sign and went undrafted out of college, beginning his pro career as an Oakland Baller before signing with the Giants this summer. Now he’s holding his own in the AFL, having amassed a 7.50 ERA even though he has a 16/4 K/BB and he’s yet to give up a homer in 12 innings. He got eight missed swings last night, with three coming on his low-90s sinker and four on his slider.
