Fernando Valenzuela Jr. went 4-for-7 with a homer Sunday in a doubleheader for Mexicali of the Mexican Pacific League.
The homer came in the first game, in which Fernando Valenzuela Sr. made his season debut by allowing three runs in 4 1/3 innings. Junior is batting .310/.339/.448 with two homers in 58 at-bats. The 24-year-old hit .266/.365/.416 in 293 at-bats for low Single-A Kannapolis this season. Unfortunately, it seems doubtful that he’ll ever reach the majors.
