The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of Trey Haley. The Pirates are interested in a minor league deal for Knudson, who was claimed off waivers from the Tigers back in November.

Knudson, 26, pitched five relief innings for the Tigers this season, serving up five home runs and 10 runs. He has a career 3.12 ERA with a strikeout per frame on the farm, though, so the Pirates obviously saw something here.
