Red Sox purchased the contract of RHP Hector Almonte from Triple-A Pawtucket.
Almonte probably should have made the Red Sox out of spring training. He had a 1.78 ERA and nine saves as Pawtucket’s closer, giving up 16 hits and posting a 28/6 K/BB ratio in 26 innings. He could be an asset in short relief, but there’s no reason to pick him up right now.
