The Baltimore Sun reports that the Orioles have signed Cuban OF Henry Urrutia to a signing bonus of $778,500.
Urrutia, 25, is a switch-hitting corner outfielder that, according to a scouting report from Baseball America, “has average power, but not the kind typical for corner outfielders.” He batted .397/.461/.597 with 12 homers in 305 at-bats in his final season playing in Cuba. Given his age, Urrutia could begin his pro career at Double-A.

Due to visa issues, the Orioles are still awaiting the arrival of Cuban defector Henry Urrutia.
Urrutia recently established residence in Haiti, and the Orioles hope he’ll be able to report to the team’s facility in Sarasota, Florida shortly. The switch-hitting 25-year-old outfielder will likely begin the 2013 season at Double-A. He signed for a $778,500 bonus back in mid-July.

Urrutia, 26, defected from Cuba last season but visa issues delayed him from making his debut until a month ago. Given his advanced age and track record, he likely isn’t far off from a promotion to Triple-A Norfolk.

The Cuban defector landed a $778,500 signing bonus from the Orioles last year but had been stuck in Haiti. He will take a physical and then report to the O’s minor league camp. The 26-year-old outfielder figures to start in the lower minors but could move up quickly.

Orioles prospect outfielder Henry Urrutia (hamstring) has begun playing in extended spring training games.
Urrutia defected from Cuba last year and received a $778,500 bonus from the Orioles, but he wasn’t able to secure a work visa to travel to the United States until this February. The 26-year-old switch-hitter has been slowed recently due to a hamstring issue, but he’s expected to eventually join Double-A Bowie. While he could advance through the system quickly, he may not be anything more than a reserve outfielder in the long-term.

Urrutia developed a hamstring issue near the end of spring training and stuck around the O’s complex in south Florida for a few extra weeks to get back to full health. The talented 26-year-old switch-hitter defected from Cuba last year and quickly landed a $778,500 signing bonus from Baltimore.
