Hernan Iribarren was suspended for three games by the Florida State League for using a corked bat.
Iribarren, who is hitting .287/.323/.356 in 174 at-bats, had his bat break during Saturday’s game and was immediately ejected. “It was drilled and corked through,” said Brewers farm director Reid Nichols, who was in attendence. “He apologized to his teammates and the staff, but this is inexcusable. It’s embarrassing to him and it’s embarrassing to the organization.”

Brandon Phillips (foot) was scratched from the Reds’ lineup Sunday.
It’s the second day in a row that he’s been scratched, as Phillips’ left foot is still sore after he fouled a ball off of it Friday. He’s day-to-day. Hernan Irabarren will take his place at second base.

Reds sent INF/OF Hernan Iribarren outright to Triple-A Louisville.
He’s now off the 40-man roster. Iribarren batted .311/.311/.444 over 45 at-bats for the Reds this season.

Scott Schebler is not in the lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Cardinals due to left hamstring tightness.
With Schebler hobbled, Hernan Iribarren is manning center field in his place. Iribarren is slated to hit second. Given the lateness of this injury on the schedule and the Reds’ lack of contention, it is possible that Schebler could be finished for 2016. In 252 at-bats, the 25-year-old outfielder has slashed .266/.330/.437 with nine homers and 39 RBI.

Manager Bryan Price believes Hernan Iribarren has a legitimate chance to make the Reds’ Opening Day roster.
Iribarren is off to a sizzling start this spring with six hits in his first 12 at-bats. Price is infatuated with the 32-year-old, repeatedly heaping praise on him for his versatility and leadership. “He’s helped a lot of our younger players continue to develop,” said Price. “There are a lot of things that bode in his favor, I think, in being able to make the club.” Iribarren held his own during a brief stint in the big leagues last season, hitting .311 over 45 at-bats.
