Cubs optioned LHPs Kyle Ryan and Justin Steele and RHP James Norwood to Triple-A Iowa; optioned LHP Brailyn Marquez to Double-A Tennessee; re-assigned RHP Joe Biaigini, OFs Michael Hermosillo, Ian Miller and Nick Martini and C Jose Lobaton to minor league camp.
Ryan and Norwood both figure to ultimately make plenty of appearances in the Cubs’ bullpen this season. Marquez is the team’s top pitching prospect and will be part of Iowa’s rotation.

Cubs sent OF Ian Miller outright to their alternate training site.
Miller was designated for assignment by the Cubs on Monday evening to clear a spot for trade-deadline acquisition Cameron Maybin. Miller, 28, is 3-for-17 (.176) lifetime at the major league level.

Cubs designated OF Ian Miller for assignment.
This move essentially clears out a roster spot for Cameron Maybin, who was acquired from the Tigers before Monday’s trade deadline. Miller is 3-for-17 (.176) in his time as a major leaguer.

Cubs optioned OF Ian Miller to their alternate training site.
Miller was just called up on Sunday and appeared as a pinch-runner in his lone appearance. He’ll try to stay ready for his next shot in the big leagues.

  • CHC Outfield #6
Cubs purchased the contract of OF Ian Miller from their alternate training site.
Miller inked a minor league deal over the winter and now finds himself on the big league roster. The speedy outfielder doesn’t figure to play much.

Cubs outfielder Ian Miller leads the spring training circuit with eight stolen bases in 17 games and has a chance to crack the Opening Day roster.
Miller is opening some eyes with his bat and his wheels this spring. He is slashing .382/.462/.471 after 34 at-bats. He has yet to hit a home run but he does have some pop -- he hit 11 home runs in the minors last year. That is not a ton of power but it is enough to make him valuable when combined with his elite speed. He stole 35 bases last year across three levels and has swiped as many as 49 bags in a season. Miller reached the majors for the first time last year and got 17 plate appearances with the Twins. His hot spring could snare him a spot on the Cubs’ roster. He would be a sneaky play in daily leagues whenever he is in the lineup.

Ian Miller went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI and a stolen bases on Sunday as a Cubs’ split-squad fell to a Reds’ split-squad in Cactus League action.
Miller drilled a two-run double and also swiped a base in this one. He’s a true dark horse candidate to crack the Cubs’ Opening Day roster as a reserve outfielder and has put together a compelling case, hitting .375 (12-for-32) with eight stolen bases across 15 Cactus League contests. The 28-year-old outfielder appeared in 12 games for the Twins last year. Keep him on your radar in NL-only formats as a potential stolen base source if he unseats one of the Cubs’ veteran for a spot on the big-league bench.

Cubs signed OF Ian Miller to a minor league contract.
Miller was designated for assignment and sent outright to Triple-A Rochester by Minnesota at the end of the 2019 season before electing free agency. The speedy 27-year-old outfielder went 3-for-17 in a cup of coffee with the Twins in September, and will provide some organizational outfield depth for the Cubs in 2020.
  • CHC Outfield #6
Twins sent OF Ian Miller outright to Triple-A Rochester.
He’s now off the 40-man roster. Miller got a cup of coffee with the Twins in September, going 3-for-17 at the plate.
  • AZ Right Fielder #17
Max Kepler left Wednesday’s game against the Red Sox in the seventh inning.
The Twins are trailing this game 6-2, so it’s possible this is just a chance to get a player that’s been dealing with leg issues some rest. We’ll certainly update if this is injury-related. Ian Miller has taken over in center, and Jake Cave has moved to right field.
