Athletics signed infielder J.C. Holt to a minor league contract and assigned him to Double-A Midland.
Holt was released by the Braves last week. The 27-year-old has a .281/.346/.360 batting line over seven seasons in the minor leagues. He was batting .167/.231/.167 over his first 37 at-bats with Triple-A Gwinnett this season before being given his release.

J.C. Holt homered and James Parr and Angelo Burrows combined on a no-hitter for Single-A Rome yesterday.
Parr struck out nine in eight innings. Holt, a 2004 third-round pick, drove in three of Rome’s five runs against Savannah. He’s still batting just .223/.264/.301 in 53 games.

J.C. Holt went 3-for-5 with an RBI on Saturday to raise his AFL average to .480 in 25 at-bats.
Holt batted just .266/.329/.326 at Single-A Myrtle Beach, which is one of the reasons the Braves are trying Eric Campbell at second base. Holt has great speed and he’s played some center field in the past, so while he’s a big long shot to make it as a regular second baseman, he has a chance at a career as a bench player. It doesn’t hurt that he’s a left-handed hitter.
