For the second consecutive season, ulcerative colitis, a disease that affects the bowel system, has put prospect Jake Gautreau on the disabled list.
Gautreau is hitting .224 at Double-A Mobile. Assistant GM Fred Uhlman Jr. was hopeful Gautreau wouldn’t miss much time.

Triple-A Portland’s Jake Gautreau is sidelined with a sprained ankle.
Poor timing for Gautreau, who had been having a very good month. He might return next week.
  • NYM 2nd Baseman
Indians acquired third baseman Jake Gautreau from the Padres for third baseman-outfielder Corey Smith.
A swap of failed first-round picks. Gautreau was drafted in 2001, a year after Smith, but he’s the older of the two players since he’s a college product. He hit .259/.351/.462 in 66 games for Double-A Mobile and .274/.333/.500 in 48 games for Triple-A Portland last season. Injuries have held him back and he’s not a great defender at third, but he should be a quality bench player someday. It will probably happen in another organization.

Triple-A Buffalo’s Jake Gautreau went 5-for-6 with two doubles on Sunday.
Gautreau is batting .296/.337/.559. He might get a look as a part-time player if the Indians ever decide to cut Aaron Boone.
  • NYM 2nd Baseman
Jake Gautreau had two hits yesterday and is batting .353 in six AFL games.
Gautreau, the 14th overall pick in the 2001 draft, was one of the minors’ biggest disappointments this year, batting .242 with a 717 OPS for Double-A Mobile. He’s still a quality prospect and a big AFL season would really help his stock, but it’s Josh Barfield who is currently considered to be San Diego’s second baseman of the future.
  • NYM 2nd Baseman
Jake Gautreau returned to Double-A Mobile’s lineup yesterday and went 1-for-4.
Gautreau had been on the disabled list with ulcerative colitis, a disease which also caused him to miss time last year.
  • NYM 2nd Baseman
Jake Gautreau, the Padres’ first-round draft choice in 2001, will move back to third base and return to Double-A Mobile.
Gautreau, 24, was originally a third baseman at Tulane. He became Mobile’s regular second baseman last spring, batting .242 with 14 homers, 55 RBI and 131 strikeouts. His move allows Josh Barfield to take over second base in Mobile.
  • NYM 2nd Baseman
Mets acquired infielder-outfielder Jake Gautreau from the Indians for a player to be named or cash considerations.
Just some depth for Triple-A New Orleans. Gautreau, the 14th overall pick by the Padres in 2001, ceased being a prospect years ago.
  • NYM 2nd Baseman
Padres promoted infielder Jake Gautreau from Double-A Mobile to Triple-A Portland.
Gautreau, who was returned to third base this year, was batting .259/.351/.462 for Mobile. The 24-year-old former first-round pick might have a future as a bench player in the majors.

ESPN’s Jayson Stark is reporting that Jake Gautreau will go to the Rangers for Brad Fullmer.
Gautreau, who was left available in last December’s Rule 5 draft, has reemerged as a decent prospect this year. He’d be viewed as a future backup by the Rangers.
