Wells was 4-3 with a 2.64 ERA, 53 H and 49/27 K/BB in 61 1/3 innings for Mobile. Cesar Carrillo’s injury makes it more likely that Wells will debut in the majors during the second half.

He had been sidelined with a hamstring strain. Wells, one of the Padres’ top pitching prospects, has a 2.14 ERA in seven starts for Mobile.

Wells is hoping to score a minor league contract after spending the 2013 season in independent ball. The 32-year-old hasn’t appeared in the majors since 2008.

Wells is hoping to get a minor league invite from someone and, according to Cotillo, has received some interest. The 32-year-old hasn’t appeared in the majors since 2008 and didn’t post an ERA lower than 4.63 in any of his last three years in the minors.

Wells, 23, was 11-3 with a 3.44 ERA, 116 H and 80/26 K/BB in 120 1/3 IP for Single-A Lake Elsinore. He’s probably one of the pitchers the Reds asked for in the Joe Randa trade.

Wells pitched once in four days with the Mariners, throwing two scoreless innings.

Wells had a 6.23 ERA in 52 relief appearances for two PCL teams this year. He’ll work in middle relief for the Mariners.

Wells’ 24-hour stay on the roster ends with Felix Hernandez’s return from the disabled list.

He’ll work in middle relief after taking Erik Bedard’s spot on the pitching staff. Wells was acquired from the Padres for Cha-Seung Baek in late May and has posted a 5.34 ERA and 48/33 K/BB ratio in 57 1/3 innings at Triple-A.

Wells was up for a day last month. He’ll likely be less than adequate in middle relief for the Mariners.
