Machi

Machi, a 10-year minor league veteran, had a 3.97 ERA and 44/17 K/BB ratio over 56 2/3 innings at the Triple-A level this season. He’ll pitch in middle relief.

Machi has a 1.74 ERA in nine games with the Giants this season. The 31-year-old will provide bullpen depth in the middle innings.

Casilla will undergo surgery on his knee Tuesday and is expected to be sidelined until around the All-Star break, so the Giants will have to make do without him for a while. Affeldt, who turns 34 in June, owns 2.35 ERA and 9/8 K/BB ratio in 15 1/3 innings this season. Chad Gaudin and Jean Machi, both right-handers, should also see work in the seventh and eighth innings.

Machi pitched well for the Giants in spring training and had thrown five scoreless innings to start off the season at Triple-A. He’ll work the middle innings.

A 10-year minor league veteran, Machi was a longshot to make the Giants’ Opening Day bullpen. He posted a 3.60 ERA in 10 appearances this spring.

Machi allowed 10 hits and two earned runs in his 10 1/3 innings with the Giants. He’ll be back up at some point.

Machi has pitched well in his time with the Giants this season, holding a 3.58 ERA and 24/5 K/BB ratio in 27 2/3 innings. He’ll be used in middle relief.

Machi has pitched well overall for the Giants but gets the boot after allowing five runs over his last two appearances. George Kontos has replaced him in the Giants’ bullpen.

The move clears a spot for Ryan Vogelsong’s return from the disabled list. Machi has a 3.34 ERA and 29/8 K/BB ratio over 35 innings this season and should return later this season.

Machi was released from the Cubs’ Triple-A team on June 9 and got arrested later that night for public intoxication and public urination outside a restaurant in Des Moines, Iowa. He was with the Giants from 2012 until the middle of 2015. The right-hander will head to Triple-A Sacramento once the minor league contract is finalized.
