Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said on his radio show Sunday that Carl Pavano (shoulder) will “almost certainly” be placed on the disabled list.
The results of an MRI on Pavano’s right shoulder are not yet known, but it sounds like, at the very least, the Twins will give him a couple weeks of rest. The veteran has been dealing with shoulder issues all season, and his velocity and results have suffered. Jeff Manship is likely to get the ball Wednesday in Pavano’s place.

P.J. Walters expects to be activated from the disabled list when eligible after an MRI revealed no structural damage with his right shoulder.
“I know I can pitch here,” Walters said. “I think I’ve shown I can pitch here, and it’s just a matter now of getting healthy and getting back out there and helping the team win some games.” The righty says this is the first start he’s ever missed, even dating back to his little league days. Jeff Manship is likely to take Walters’ spot in the rotation, though the Twins won’t need a fifth starter until June 23.

Manship, who turns 28 in January, posted a 7.89 ERA and 12/7 K/BB ratio over 21 2/3 innings with the Twins this season. He didn’t prove worthy of a 40-man roster spot.
