Brewers signed RHP Jesus Castillo to a minor league contract with an invitation to major league spring training.
The 24-year-old right-hander pitched well for the Angels’ Double-A affiliate in 2019, going 6-6 with a 2.71 ERA in 38 games (12 starts). The command-and-control specialist doesn’t generate a ton of strikeouts but he keeps the ball on the ground and rarely gives up a longball. He could reach the majors for the first time in 2020 but will need to develop a strikeout pitch if he wants to become a good option in fantasy leagues.

Angels RHP prospect Jesus Castillo threw seven innings while allowing just one unearned run on Sunday for Double-A Mobile.
Castillo allowed eight hits, but he limited the damage to just the unearned score, and he didn’t walk anyone while striking out three. The 23-year-old now owns a 3.08 ERA with the BayBears over 73 innings, and he owns a 54/17 K/BB ratio over his 14 games; 12 of them starts. The right-hander doesn’t have an out pitch, but he has three useable offerings that he throws for strikes, and the command isn’t far behind the control. This is not an elite prospect by any means, but Castillo has the ability to be a long-term starter; one who could be a solid streaming option in a couple of seasons.

Angels sent RHP Jesus Castillo outright to Double-A Mobile.
Castillo had been designated for assignment, but he cleared waivers and will remain in the organization. He’ll be part of Mobile’s rotation.

Angels designated RHP Jesus Castillo for assignment.
The move is necessitated by the Angels claiming outfielder Brian Goodwin off waivers from the Royals. The 23-year-old right-hander is unlikely to be claimed, and should report to Double-A Mobile to be a part of their rotation in 2019.

Angels acquired RHP Jesus Castillo from the Cubs for RHP Joe Smith.
Castillo, 20, has produced a 3.27 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and 38/11 K/BB ratio over 33 innings (seven starts) this season in Low-A ball. It’s not a bad get for a reliever in Smith who appears to be trending downward.

Angels purchased the contract of RHP Jesus Castillo from Double-A Mobile.
Castillo, 22, held a 3.32 ERA and 118/26 K/BB ratio over 124 2/3 innings across three levels in 2017. He now can’t be taken in the Rule 5 Draft.
