Rays hired Jon Daniels as senior advisor for baseball operations.
Daniels, 45, was fired in August after serving as general manager/president of baseball operations for the Rangers from 2005-2022. While it ended poorly, he was able to lead Texas to a couple of World Series appearances, and is still highly regarded in the industry.

Levi Weaver and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic report that the Rangers are parting ways with president of baseball operations Jon Daniels.
And the team has since sent out an official press release confirming that Daniels “has been relieved of his duties” effective immediately. Chris Young, who had been serving as executive vice president and general manager, will take over as the head honcho on “all aspects of the Rangers’ baseball operations department.” This front-office change comes after the sudden firing of manager Chris Woodward on Monday. Apparently ownership thought that spending a half-billion dollars on outside upgrades over the offseason would lead to far more success in 2022, despite obvious remaining holes up and down the Opening Day depth chart. As of Wednesday afternoon, Texas is 52-64 and 22 games back of the AL West-leading Astros.

A source tells Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that no players, coaches or baseball operations personnel were among those who tested positive for COVID-19.
A report from Jeff Passan of ESPN late Friday night confirmed that several members of the Rangers’ staff have tested positive for the virus, with one employee telling Passan stating that the employees were “terrified for their safety.” This comes just a few days after R.J. Anderson of CBS Sports reported that Texas was still having their front-office members come into work despite over 2,000 positive tests in the area. The Rangers plan to sanitize the offices and plan to reassess a work-from-home policy.
