White Sox released OF Jon Gilmore.
Gilmore is best known as being part of the deal that sent Javier Vazquez to the Braves in December of 2008. However, the 24-year-old never developed any power and injuries limited him to just 33 games this season with Double-A Birmingham. He was the No. 33 overall pick in the 2007 First-Year Player Draft.

Jon Gilmore went 4-for-6 with a triple and four RBI for the Rookie GCL Braves on Wednesday.
The triple came off the rehabbing Tom Gordon. Gilmore, the 33rd overall pick in the 2007 draft out of an Iowa high school, is batting .368/.383/.439 in 57 at-bats.

Third baseman Jon Gilmore was picked up from the Braves in the Javier Vazquez deal.
Gilmore, the 33rd overall selection in the 2007 draft, was a bust at low Single-A Rome at the beginning of last season, but he did bounce back following a demotion. He ended up hitting .186/.202/.196 in 102 at-bats for Rome and .337/.365/.473 in 258 at-bats for SS Single-A Danville. He just turned 20 in August and he probably has 25-homer potential, so he is a prospect. Still, he doesn’t currently project as a starting third baseman in the majors.
