Bonifacio

Bonifacio actually inked a deal with the Royals last week and is already game-ready. Of course, Bonifacio began his career in the Royals’ organization and played in the majors with the club from 2017-2019 before bouncing around in recent years. Now 29 years old, he’s strictly organizational depth at this point.

Bonifacio found his way into seven games last year with the Phillies and spent the majority of the season between Double-A Reading and Triple-A Lehigh Valley, slashing .256/.360/.506 with 17 homers and give steals across 381 plate appearances. He’ll bolster the Phillies’ organizational outfield depth.

Bonifacio has refused an outright minor-league assignment and will head to free agency. The 28-year-old outfielder appeared in seven games for the Phillies this season, collecting just one hit in 12 at-bats.

Bonifacio’s latest stint in the majors was another brief one. He’s clearing out to make room for Travis Jankowski’s return.

The 26-year-old rejoins the Phillies after being designated for assignment earlier in the week. He’s 0-for-3 with a pair of strikeouts during his limited time with the big league club this season.

Bonifacio went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts during his short stay on the active roster in Philadelphia.

The 28-year-old outfielder appeared in 30 games for the Tigers earlier this season, slashing .221/.277/.326 with two homers, 17 RBI and a 26/5 K/BB ratio in 94 plate appearances. Since joining the Phillies, he has slashed .273/.372/.546 with 15 homers and 54 RBI in 71 games across two minor league levels. He’s starting in center field and batting sixth in his Phillies debut on Friday night against the Padres.

The move clears him from the 40-man roster. Bonifacio slashed just .221/.277/.326 with two home runs and 17 RBI over 94 plate appearances this season.

Bonifacio has gotten to play regularly of late with Cameron Maybin traded, JaCoby Jones injured and Christin Stewart forgotten. He wasn’t doing much of anything with the playing time until today -- he had a .538 OPS in 17 games -- and he probably isn’t anything more than a stopgap while the Tigers wait for younger players to step up.

The 27-year-old will give the Tigers a little extra outfield depth while Harold Castro recovers from a hamstring strain. Bonifacio is a career .247/.319/.408 hitter in 713 plate appearances at the MLB level.
