Right now, their best options are Todd Van Poppel or Double-A pitcher Luke Hudson. Since May 29, Acevedo is 1-6 with a 7.77 ERA and one quality start in 11 outings.

Too bad, because if the Reds want to help Acevedo’s confidence, the best thing they could do would be to give him a start against the Diamondbacks’ minor league hitters. Instead, Luke Hudson, Aaron Harang and Brandon Claussen will face Arizona, with Acevedo available out of the bullpen.

The Rockies led 2-1 when Acevedo was pulled and 4-1 after 7 1/2, but Dan Miceli was charged with five runs and the loss in the eighth inning.

Zach Day’s timetable might have just gotten pushed up. The Rockies want to put Day into the rotation and Acevedo back in the pen, but they’re going to wait until Day, who is currently in Triple-A, is ready.

Acevedo has been lit up twice in a row. The Rockies might have him and Sun Woo Kim switch roles.
