Juan Gonzalez has begun twice-a-day treatments the Rangers hope will keep a right calf strain from sending him to the DL.
The injury comes at the worst possible time, just as Gonzalez’s agent said the slugger would be ''open-minded’’ about waiving his no-trade clause. Gonzalez has not, however, presented the Rangers with a list of teams he would be willing to play for.

The A’s have scheduled a meeting at the winter meetings with the agent for Juan Gonzalez.
If Gonzalez comes cheap enough, the A’s could pick him up as a part-time right fielder and designated hitter. Their current plan is to go with Nick Swisher in right, but they are flexible.

The Devil Rays met with Juan Gonzalez’s agent on Friday, but they reportedly have only mild interest in the slugger.
It’s mild interest all around. Given that the Twins have potential openings in right field and at DH, they might join the Rays and A’s in talking to Gonzalez. The Mariners and Angels also are on the lookout for DHs.

If they trade either Magglio Ordonez or Carlos Lee, the White Sox could bring in Juan Gonzalez as a replacement.
They’ve reportedly started doing background checks on the free-agent slugger. The Expos will also be interested in Gonzalez if they lose Vladimir Guerero.

The Expos talked to agent Alan Nero yesterday about Juan Gonzalez.
It doesn’t appear that Montreal has made Gonzalez an offer. The Devil Rays and Diamondbacks are also showing interest in the slugger.

Juan Gonzalez missed a fourth game yesterday because of lingering effects from the flu.
This is really shocking, because Juan is always one to step up and give it his all when he’s not feeling his strongest.

The Dallas Morning News and Fort Worth Star Telegram are confirming that Juan Gonzalez has been dealt, pending his approval.
Gonzalez has a no-trade clause, so he has 72 hours to accept the deal. Still no word on what team acquired him, although the Star-Telegram is reporting that the Expos and Dodgers were interested. In order to get some real talent in return, the Rangers apparently have picked up a great deal of the money still owed to Gonzalez.
