Twins signed OF Leandro Castro to a minor league contract.
Castro, 27, split his 2016 season between a pair of Independent league teams, Laredo in the American Association and Rockland in the Canadian-American Association, where he hit .316/.355/.524 with 11 homers, 36 RBI and eight stolen bases in 58 games. He possesses an interesting blend of power and speed but will have to prove he can handle minor league pitching before he’s an option for the Twins.
  • MIN Outfield
Phillies re-signed OF Leandro Castro to a minor league contract.
The 24-year-old outfielder also receives an invitation to spring training. He slashed .256/.280/.368 with eight homers, 55 RBI and 20 swipes in 117 games at Triple-A Lehigh Valley in 2013. He’ll attempt to latch on as a reserve outfielder.
  • MIN Outfield
Phillies reassigned OFs Leandro Castro, Kelly Dugan, Aaron Altherr and C Sebastian Valle to minor league camp.
None of the four cuts are particularly surprising. Castro, a 24-year-old outfielder has displayed an intriguing blend of power and speed in the minor leagues, and could resurface as a reserve outfielder at some point during the season.
