Lucas Harrell struggled against the Reds on Friday, giving up six runs (five earned) on nine hits over his six innings of work.
Harrell struck out one and walked one in the game. He surrendered a pair of runs in the first, third and fifth innings of this one, the last pair coming on a monstrous two-run blast off the bat of Jay Bruce. This is the second consecutive outing that Harrell has struggled in, and he doesn’t look like a play in most fantasy leagues at this point, especially for his matchup against the hot-hitting Cardinals next week.

Lucas Harrell struggled against the Marlins on Friday, allowing four runs on seven hits in just four innings of work.
He struggled with his command all night, walking four and striking out two. He needed 85 pitches to battle his way through four innings. Harrell well attempt to get back on track as he takes on the Nationals in Washington next week.
  • FA Starting Pitcher #24
Zachary Levine of the Houston Chronicle reports that the Astros have sent Jordan Lyles to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
The Astros have yet to make an official announcement, but given that the 21-year-old posted an ugly 8.41 ERA over 20 1/3 innings this spring, it doesn’t come as a big surprise. Lucas Harrell and Kyle Weiland will unofficially follow Wandy Rodriguez, Bud Norris and J.A. Happ in the starting rotation.
  • FA Starting Pitcher #24
Astros optioned RHP Jordan Lyles to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
As expected. Lyles had a chance at winning one of the final two spots in the starting rotation, but posted an 8.41 ERA and 10/4 K/BB ratio over 20 1/3 innings this spring. Lucas Harrell and Kyle Weiland are both officially in the rotation.
  • TOR Relief Pitcher #57
Lucas Harrell tossed six shutout innings Monday night against Double-A Corpus Christi.
Harrell scattered six hits while whiffing four and walking just one. The 26-year-old right-hander was awarded a rotation spot on Monday and is scheduled to face the Rockies in the second game of the season on Saturday. Despite his shiny 2.16 ERA this spring, he isn’t worth chasing in fantasy leagues.

Lucas Harrell was touched up for five runs over five innings in a loss to the Brewers on Monday night.
Harrell allowed five hits (including a solo homer by Ryan Braun) and three walks while striking out only one. He still has a 3.97 ERA through four starts, but this comes with a lousy 11/10 K/BB ratio over 22 2/3 innings. He isn’t worth chasing in fantasy leagues.
  • HOU Starting Pitcher
Kyle Weiland, Jordan Lyles and Lucas Harrell will compete for the final two spots in the Astros rotation following the release of Livan Hernandez.
Weiland and Harrell have pitched the best in camp, posting ERAs of 2.25 and 2.16, respectively, while Lyles holds a 6.32 mark. Knowing they won’t be in contention this season, the Astros have decided to go with a youth movement in the rotation, and we applaud them for it. We could see some NL-only value for whoever in the group winds up in the rotation.

Lucas Harrell pitched very well on Friday against the Cardinals, allowing just three earned runs on seven hits over his 5 1/3 innings of work.
Harrell struck out three and walked two on the night. He’s been wildly inconsistent thus far on the season, and now sits at 2-2 with a 4.76 ERA through his first 34 innings. He’ll look to build on this strong performance when he takes on the Marlins next week.

Lucas Harrell tossed seven shutout innings Saturday in the Astros’ defeat of the Rockies.
The 26-year-old right-hander yielded just three hits and struck out four batters without issuing a single walk. Harrell won a spot in Houston’s starting rotation with a strong showing this spring and has now carried that momentum into the 2012 regular season. Though, for fantasy purposes, we wouldn’t read a whole lot into it.
  • TOR Relief Pitcher #57
Lucas Harrell suffered a tough-luck no-decision Wednesday, as he held the Nationals to one run on four hits and three walks over 6 2/3 innings.
He punched out four and didn’t let a run cross the plate until a Roger Bernadina RBI double chased him in the seventh. Harrell struggled in his second outing, but he’s pitched well in two of three starts this season and how holds a 2.55 ERA and 1.19 WHIP for the year. He’ll get the Brewers on the road next.
