Corpas, a 23-year-old signed out of Panama seven years ago, has a 30/3 K/BB ratio in 30 2/3 innings. He could be a future setup man for the Rockies.

Corpas hasn’t pitched since the 2010 season due to Tommy John surgery, but he should be ready to rock by Opening Day 2012. The 29-year-old righty has a 3.93 career ERA.

The Cubs signed Corpas in late-December, but he’ll now head to spring training as a non-roster invite. The 29-year-old right-hander hasn’t pitched in the majors since undergoing Tommy John surgery in August of 2010.

It was reported last week as a one-year major-league deal, but it’s actually a non-guaranteed split contract. Corpas hasn’t pitched in the majors since August of 2010 due to Tommy John surgery, but he’s expected to be ready for spring training. The 29-year-old right-hander has a 3.93 ERA over 280 appearances in the majors, averaging 6.5 K/9 and 2.5 BB/9.

There’s nothing official yet and the corresponding roster move isn’t yet known. Corpas signed with the Cubs in December after missing the entire 2011 season following Tommy John surgery. Now 29 years old, he has a 4.01 ERA and 19/9 K/BB ratio in 33 2/3 innings at the Triple-A level this season. The backend of the Cubs’ bullpen is a complete mess, so we wouldn’t rule out Corpas getting a shot at closer if he pitches well.

He’ll likely start out in middle relief, but could pitch his way into a more prominent role given the uncertainty in the Cubs’ bullpen.

Benches cleared after Cubs’ right-hander Lendy Castillo threw inside on Bryce Harper. It’s not clear what Corpas did to get ejected, but a number of Nationals’ players were yelling in his direction.
