Astros LHP prospect Matt Bower fanned a career-high 10 hitters over five shutout innings Saturday in a no-decision for High-A Lancaster.
He held visiting Lake Elsinore to one hit and two walks with the lone hit coming on a bunt single by Franchy Cordero in the fourth inning. Bower was promoted for Saturday’s start after beginning the year with a 2.29 ERA over five outings for Low-A Quad Cities. Opponents have hit a mere .185 against him in 92 at-bats this season. The 21-year-old joined the Astros as a 23rd-round pick in last year’s draft.
