Llovera was removed from Seattle’s 40-man roster back in spring training and didn’t end up making it back to the big leagues over the past few months. The hard-throwing 28-year-old has made 54 appearances in the majors since debuting during the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign.

He will now function as organizational bullpen depth.

It’s the second Red Sox reliever the Mariners have claimed this winter. Kaleb Ort was the first, but he was later waived again and now is part of the Marlins’ organization. Llovera, too, will likely wind up on waivers again. The 27-year-old reliver has a 5.80 ERA in 59 innings over parts of four seasons as a major leaguer.

Llovera, 27, had a 5.46 ERA in 29 2/3 innings out of the Red Sox pen last season. There’s a decent chance that he’ll clear waivers, though another team might claim him and then DFA him again later. He’s out of options, and he has a 5.80 ERA through 59 innings as a major leaguer.

Jacques has been shipped back to the minors to free up a spot on Boston’s roster for recently-acquired reliever Mauricio Llovera, who is expected to join the team on Saturday.

Llovera heads to Boston as extra organizational relief depth after being designated for assignment last weekend by San Francisco. The 27-year-old right-hander has made just five relief appearances this season for the Giants, allowing one run over 5 1/3 innings of work.

Llovera is out of options, otherwise the Giants just would have sent him down. It doesn’t seem likely that he’ll clear waivers after allowing one run in 5 1/3 innings during his time in the majors.

Llovera re-signed with the Giants last November and will be making his season debut when he gets into a game. The 27-year-old right-hander made a career-high 17 relief appearances last year for San Francisco. He’ll be available for Friday’s series opener against the Rockies.

Llovera was non-tendered by the Giants earlier this month, shortly after being removed from San Francisco’s 40-man roster, but has opted to reunite with the organization. The 26-year-old righty posted a 4.41 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 20/8 K/BB ratio across 16 1/3 innings (17 appearances, one start) last year before sustaining a season-ending right forearm strain in July. He’ll function as organizational relief depth moving forward.

Llovera missed the second half of last season with a forearm strain. The 26-year-old has a 7.13 ERA in 24 innings for the Phillies and Giants the last three seasons.
