Jimmy Rollins is not in Wednesday’s lineup against the Astros.
The Phillies plan to ease Rollins back into the lineup, so it’s no surprise he’s getting a rest with the day game. Michael Martinez will play shortstop Wednesday and bat eighth against right-hander Bud Norris.

  • CLE 2nd Baseman #2
Michael Martinez was diagnosed with a broken bone in his right foot.
Martinez suffered the injury when he was hit in the foot by a pitch during Tuesday’s game. No word on how long he’ll be sidelined, but it appears likely he’ll begin the season on the disabled list. Michael Martinez (foot) won’t be able to return to the field for 6-8 weeks.
It would presumably be at least an additional week or two before he would be game-ready, so we probably shouldn’t expect him back until late May or early June. The Phillies are expected to pursue utility help from outside the organization.

Martinez began the season on the disabled list after suffering a broken bone in his right foot during spring training. The hope is that he’ll be cleared to resume full workouts after meeting with doctors Monday. Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro, Jr. estimates that he could be ready to return by late April or early May.
  • CLE 2nd Baseman #2
Phillies transferred INF Michael Martinez from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Mike Fontenot. Martinez has been on the disabled list all season after breaking a bone in his right foot during spring training.
  • CLE 2nd Baseman #2
Michael Martinez left Tuesday’s game against the Astros after he was struck in the right elbow by a pickoff throw.
He was diagnosed with a bruise and isn’t expected to miss more than a couple games. The 29-year-old currently projects to make the Opening Day roster as a utility infielder, but Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com reports that the Phils are on the lookout for additional infield depth.

Michael Martinez (foot) will be in a walking boot for another two weeks.
Martinez suffered a broken bone in his foot when he was hit with a pitch on March 20. His return isn’t considered imminent, so the Phillies recently signed Mike Fontenot as some insurance for their middle infield situation.
