Left-hander Mike Holtz has signed a one-year deal with the Yokohama BayStars of Japan.
The 32-year-old Holtz had spent the last two years in the minors. He’ll receive about $360,000 under the terms of the deal.

Mike Holtz (elbow) made a rehab appearance for Triple-A Pawtucket on Saturday.
Holtz gave up a run on two hits in 2/3 of an inning. The lefty specialist should be activated from the disabled list early this week.

Red Sox activated LHP Mike Holtz from the 15-day disabled list and designated him for assignment.
Holtz was never worthy of a roster spot in the first place. Now that Boston has Javier Lopez, Holtz might decide to seek employment elsewhere rather than take an assignment to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Red Sox placed LHP Mike Holtz on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 17, because of a strained muscle near his elbow.
A quality lefty specialist would have come in handy against the Phillies this weekend, but Holtz didn’t really qualify anyway. There won’t be a place for him on the roster when he’s ready to return.

Red Sox released LHP Mike Holtz.
Holtz, who gave up three runs in 1 2/3 innings for the Red Sox in May, was designated for assignment 10 days ago.

Pirates reassigned pitchers Mike Holtz, Mark Corey, Ariel Prieto and John Wasdin to minor league camp.
Holtz had the best chance of making the team out of this group, but he gave up 10 hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Devil Rays signed LHP Mike Holtz to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Holtz had a 4.91 ERA in 45 relief appearances for Triple-A Nashville last season. There’s very little chance of him earning a spot on the Rays.

Red Sox signed LHP Mike Holtz, LHP Craig Breslow, LHP Mike Bumatay and LHP Phil Seibel to minor league contracts and invited them to spring training.
Bumatay’s deal was agreed to a couple of months ago, and Breslow agreed to terms last week. The 33-year-old Holtz is back in the U.S. after a year in Japan. He’s not going to be much of a candidate for a spot on Boston’s roster. If the Red Sox carry a lefty reliever, it will likely be Lenny DiNardo.
