Porzio doesn’t figure to have any fantasy value, especially since the White Sox love to push back their fifth starter whenever possible.

The White Sox had hoped to use Gary Glover, but he was needed in relief on Friday.

Porzio got the win, but since he was facing the Indians, his outing wasn’t especially impressive. Porzio will need to string together a few good starts before he can be recommended in AL-only leagues.

Porzio has not pitched this spring because of tendinitis in his left shoulder.

Porzio, 31, got a chance to spend last season as a starter, posting a 4.24 ERA for Triple-A Charlotte and going 1-1 with a 6.43 ERA in three starts for the White Sox. The Indians will probably shift him back to the pen and have him open the season at Triple-A Buffalo.

Porzio took the loss despite his decent outing. He’s expected to return to the minors after the All-Star break.

Porzio’s been used as a starter this year, but if he has a future in the majors, it’ll be as a reliever. He’ll be used as a lefty specialist until the White Sox bring back their fifth starter.

Porzio isn’t a long-term option as a fifth starter and the White Sox don’t seem to want to turn back to Dan Wright. Don’t be surprised if they pick up someone at the deadline.

The White Sox seemed pleased with Porzio’s first two starts, but they obviously weren’t happy with Saturday’s effort. When Porzio returns to the majors, it will probably happen as a reliever. The White Sox will choose someone else next time they need a fifth starter.

Very surprising. The White Sox liked Porzio enough to make him their fifth starter in July, but now he’s been passed by Jose Paniagua and Jon Adkins, neither of whom have shown any sign that they’re capable of helping a major league team right now.
