On Tuesday, the Red Sox announced that reliever Carson Smith has been placed on the 10-day disabled list with a right shoulder subluxation. Pitcher Bobby Poyner has been called up from Triple-A Pawtucket.
Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said that Smith suffered the injury throwing his glove in the dugout after he was pulled from Monday’s game, Evan Drellich of NBC Sports Boston reports. Smith gave up a leadoff home run to Khris Davis in the top of the eighth inning, which extended the Athletics’ lead to 6-4. The Red Sox ended up losing 6-5.
Dombrowski said the injury is “unfortunate.” There is currently no timetable for Smith’s recovery, but Dombrowski said, “It’s got the potential of being a major injury.”
