Rockies left-hander Drew Pomeranz, the 30th-ranked prospect in the sport according to Baseball America, was officially recalled from the Double-A level on Sunday morning and is on the mound this afternoon against the Diamondbacks for his first major league start of the 2012 regular season.

Jordan Pacheco was demoted to Triple-A Colorado Springs in a corresponding 25-man roster move.

Pomeranz, 23, posted a dominant 1.78 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 119/38 K/BB ratio in 101-plus innings last year between Single-A and Double-A. He was acquired last summer from the Indians as the player to be named later in the five-player Ubaldo Jimenez trade.

The Rockies are expected to limit Pomeranz to around 160 innings in his first full major league season.
