Released by the Rockies last week, outfielder Drew Stubbs has agreed to a minor-league contract with the Rangers.
Colorado is on the hook for Stubbs’ entire $5.8 million salary, so it was a low-cost flier for Texas and provides the Rangers with some potentially useful outfield depth down the stretch.
Stubbs strikes out a ton and is stretched thin as an everyday player, but he has 20-homer power, 30-steal speed, and good range in the outfield. If spotted mostly versus left-handed pitching he can be valuable in a part-time role.
