Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post reports that the Nationals won’t make a $17.2 million qualifying offer to catcher Wilson Ramos.
Ramos, 29, had an outstanding season, but suffered a tragic injury near the end of the regular season, tearing his ACL and meniscus for which he required surgery. He hit .307/.354/.496 with 22 home runs and 80 RBI in 523 plate appearances and appeared set to cash in big as a free agent this offseason.
The injury will likely result in Ramos getting less guaranteed years and a lower overall salary than he would have otherwise. However, he won’t have draft pick compensation attached to him which might help him draw more interest this offseason.
