The 87th Academy Awards ceremony -- better known as the Oscars -- are being held tonight. It’s a night set aside to let the best in movies take another turn in the spotlight, but lately, an unexpected athlete has risen to prominence.
Reliever John Axford, currently with the Rockies on a minor league deal, has proved himself an expert when it comes to correctly picking the winners of the various awards. The right-hander went a perfect 18-for-18 last year and 14-for-15 the year prior. In a guest column for The Players’ Tribune, Axford offered his picks for tonight’s festivities.
Axford has a solid base of knowledge from which to build upon, as he has his Bachelors in Film and Television from Notre Dame. He has been a sponsor of the Milwaukee Film Festival since 2011 as well. If you’re looking to make any last-minute bets with friends and family, it may be wise to crib Axford’s notes.
