While appearing at last night’s Chargers game golfer Phil Mickelson talked about his plans to join the Padres’ new ownership group as a minority partner.
“We’ll hopefully have something here shortly to announce,” Mickelson said, via Tod Leonard of the San Diego Union Tribune. “I’m really excited about working with Peter Seidler and the O’Malley family. We understand each other’s concerns and work well together.”
Mickelson has been linked to the new ownership for a while now, but when the official paperwork for the sale was submitted in August his name was nowhere to be found. However, that seems to be merely a formality.
Mickelson has nearly $70 million in career earnings from the PGA tour alone, which ranks second in golf history, and that’s not even counting his significant endorsement revenue. He was born in San Diego before going to Arizona State for college.
