Report: Brewers, left-hander Wolf moving close to deal

AOL FanHouse’s Ed Price is hearing that the Brewers and Randy Wolf are “closing in” on a three-year deal. There’s been plenty else today to back up the idea that the Brewers and Wolf were talking. It was thought weeks ago that the Brewers might pass on the left-hander because they didn’t want to forfeit their first-round pick, but the Dodgers’ decision not to offer him arbitration certainly caught their eyes. Wolf went 11-7 with a 3.23 ERA in a career-high 214 1/3 innings for the Dodgers last season. The healthy season was just his second since 2003, but it did make two in a row and he’s truly been one of the NL’s top left-handers for a year and a half now. He’ll probably earn $10 million-$12 million per season under the terms of his next deal, and the Brewers have the flexibility to pay him after shedding the salaries of Mike Cameron, Braden Looper and J.J. Hardy.
