Report: Marlins manager Mike Redmond is on the hot seat

The Marlins dropped Sunday’s series finale to the Mets 7-6 despite a valiant attempt at a comeback, running their losing streak to four games as they fell to 3-10. The Marlins have already had three separate losing streaks of at least three games. And it’s the Marlins, not the Phillies, who are currently in last place in the NL East.

As a result of the Marlins’ slow start, Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports that manager Mike Redmond is on the hot seat. Redmond signed a two-year contract extension last September which expires at the end of the 2017 season. However, the organization is already considering potential replacements, including Wally Backman, currently the manager of the Las Vegas 51’s, the Mets’ minor league affiliate.

Outfielder Giancarlo Stanton recently said that the Marlins lacked “fire”, which Spencer says could have unintentionally hurt Redmond’s standing with the front office.
