In a move you don’t see very often the Rockies plucked Walt Weiss away from his job coaching high schoolers and gave him a one-year contract when they hired him as manager this offseason, but now he’s getting a new multi-year deal.
Rockies owner Dick Monfort told Troy Renck of the Denver Post that Weiss will sign a new deal by the end of this week and it’ll be for at least two more seasons, giving him some job security following a disappointing first year in which the team went just 74-88 to finish in last place.
