The Ryan Zimmerman outfield experiment is about to get underway.

According to Mark Zuckerman of CSNWashington.com, Nationals manager Matt Williams announced this morning that Zimmerman will play five innings in left field today in his latest minor league rehab game with High-A Potomac. It will be his first professional game in the outfield.

Zimmerman, who broke his right thumb diving into second base on April 12, went 0-for-3 with a sacrifice fly as the designated hitter in his first rehab game last night. The Nationals are mulling a position switch in hopes to take some stress off his right shoulder. He could be activated as soon as Tuesday.
