Pirates outfielder Starling Marte confirmed on Wednesday that he is dealing with an oblique injury, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports. Oblique injuries usually require a stint on the disabled list, but Marte thinks he’ll be able to avoid the DL.

Marte exited Tuesday’s game against the White Sox after two innings after feeling discomfort in his side. He wasn’t included in Wednesday’s starting lineup. The Pirates close out their homestand with a four-game series against the Padres beginning on Thursday, so there’s no off-day until Monday.

Marte, 29, is hitting .308/.366/.503 with six home runs, 19 RBI, 30 runs scored, and 10 stolen bases in 175 plate appearances this season. After Wednesday’s win, the Pirates temporarily climbed into a half-game lead in the NL Central over the Brewers.
