Allgeyer

Allgeyer was traded to the Astros back in May from the Phillies and never wound up making it to Houston. The 27-year-old southpaw last appeared in the majors during the 2021 campaign when he made one relief appearance for the Blue Jays.

Allgeyer made one relief appearance for the Blue Jays during the 2021 season and represents extra organizational depth for the injury-plagued Astros, who have lost both Luis Garcia (elbow) and José Urquidy (shoulder) to injury. The 27-year-old lefty has posted a 4.50 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 15/6 K/BB ratio across 12 innings (four starts) this year at the Triple-A level.

Allgeyer made one relief appearance for the Blue Jays back in 2021 and will open the year at Triple-A Lehigh Valley as extra organizational depth for the Phillies.

Allgeyer gave up four hits and an RBI double from Josh Donaldson represented the lone tally against him in this one. The 26-year-old lefty made one relief appearance last year with the Blue Jays and is competing for a spot on the Opening Day roster. He’ll likely open the regular season as extra pitching depth at Triple-A Buffalo.

Toronto needed to make room on the 40-man roster after adding Breyvic Valera on Sunday. Allgeyer posted a 4.37 ERA and 1.70 WHIP over 45 1/3 innings this season with Triple-A Buffalo.

The Blue Jays needed to create space to activate reliever Rafael Dolis from the 10-day injured list and Allgeyer pulled the short straw after being recalled on July 2. The left-hander made one appearance for Toronto, tossing one scoreless frame on Friday against the Rays.

It will be the second trip to the big leagues for the 25-year-old southpaw -- though he didn’t appear in a game the first time around. He owns a 4.24 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and 44/24 K/BB ratio across 40 1/3 innings at Triple-A this season.

The Blue Jays will announce a corresponding roster move on Tuesday. Allgeyer was just called up on Saturday, but didn’t make an appearance.

Allgeyer is joining the Blue Jays bullpen and is available tonight. He made two starts for Triple-A Buffalo and pitched well with a 1.50 ERA in 12 innings. The 25-year-old will make his MLB debut when he gets into a contest.
