Nationals signed INF Nick Shumpert to a minor league contract.
The 26-year-old hasn’t played affiliated ball since the 2018 season when he was in the Braves organization. From there, he played a season in Australia and has spent the last four seasons bouncing around the Independent Leagues. In 2022, he slashed .265/.310/.421 with eight homers, 50 RBI and 29 stolen bases (in 42 attempts) for the Cleburne Railroaders in the American Association. He’ll add minor league infield depth for the Nats.
