Venditte

Venditte was reinstated off the 60-day injured list before being outrighted off the 40-man roster -- and the Marlins did the same with Josh A. Smith and Mike Morin. The both-handed pitcher threw 4 1/3 scoreless innings with five strikeouts and no walks before suffering a right oblique strain in the middle of August. Venditte, Smith and Moran are all expected to become free agents.

Venditte suffered the injury while making a relief appearance Tuesday night against the Mets and is probably going to be sidelined until sometime in mid-to-late September. The 35-year-old switch-pitcher had throwing 4 1/3 scoreless innings with five strikeouts and zero walks this season for the Marlins.

Venditte could be seen holding his right side following a first-pitch ball to Pete Alonso in the top of the sixth inning. There should be an updating on the switch-pitching reliever after the game.

The Marlins signed Venditte to a minor league contract at the end of July, and the switch-pitching hurler will now get a chance to pitch in games for the Marlins. He’s fun because of the novelty, but his 5.03 ERA and 53/28 K/BB ratio in 68 innings in the majors is less so.

Venditte inked a minor league deal with Miami back in January before getting cut loose ahead of summer camp. The 35-year-old switch-pitcher could get a shot right away with the Marlins reeling from a nearly team-wide COVID-19 outbreak. Venditte holds a 5.03 ERA and 53/28 K/BB ratio in 68 career MLB innings.

The 34-year-old hurler has struggled in his time at the big league level, compiling a 5.03 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 53/28 K/BB ratio over 68 innings. With the new rule beginning this season though that a relief pitcher must face a minimum of three batters (or get the final out in an inning), perhaps Venditte’s unique versatility could be better utilized.

Venditte cleared waivers after being designated for assignment and the switch-pitcher will remain in the organization.

Venditte allowed six earned runs in just 3 1/3 innings (two appearances) with San Francisco. The 33-year-old switch-pitcher owns a 5.03 ERA in 68 career innings at the major league level.

The 33-year-old switch-pitcher performed well in 15 appearances for the Dodgers last season, registering a 2.57 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 9/3 K/BB ratio across 14 innings. He has also done a nice job at Triple-A this season, with a 2.40 ERA and 1.27 WHIP across 15 frames. He’ll add depth in the middle innings for the Giants.

The switch-pitcher has been roughed up to the tune of a 11.12 ERA this spring. Venditte figures to go back-and-forth between Triple-A and the majors a lot this season.
