Giants signed LHP Philip Pfeifer to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
The 28-year-old southpaw became a free agent last month after refusing the Braves outright assignment to Triple-A. Pfeifer has never pitched at the big league level. The last we saw him, he compiled a 2.97 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 159/42 K/BB ratio across 133 1/3 innings between High-A Florida, Double-A Mississippi and Triple-A Gwinnett during the 2019 season. He’ll add pitching depth for the Giants.

Braves sent LHP Philip Pfeifer to Triple-A Gwinnett.
Pfeifer cleared waivers after being designated for assignment. He didn’t pitch in 2020 due to an elbow issue, but the lefty has shown flashes in the past before that so the Braves are surely glad to keep him in the organization.

Braves designated LHP Philip Pfeifer for assignment.
The Braves needed to clear a 40-man roster spot for Jake Lamb, so Pfeifer got bumped off. The 28-year-old was added to the Braves’ 40-man roster after a strong 2019 season between three different levels in the minors, but he didn’t pitch last year due to a bone contusion in his elbow.

Braves recalled LHP Philip Pfeifer from their alternate training site; posted him on the 45-day injured list with a left elbow bone contusion.
The Braves cleared another 40-man roster spot in the process. The severity of the injury isn’t yet known. Pfeifer, 28, pitched between three different levels in the Braves’ minor league system last year while posting a 2.97 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and 159/42 K/BB ratio in 133 1/3 innings.

Braves acquired LHP Philip Pfeifer from the Dodgers in the Bud Norris deal.
Pfeifer holds a 2.67 ERA and 42/18 K/BB ratio over 30 1/3 innings this season between Low- and High-A. He’ll turn 24 in a couple weeks, though, so he’s been old for the levels he’s pitched at.
